I believe it is important to enable every child to be the best they can be.

Some areas of difficulty children face are:

  • Fostering and adoption
  • Self Harm

I offer one-to-one sessions with children and young people.

It can be helpful to talk to a counsellor to enable you to explore feelings and experiences which may feel embarrassing, frightening or private in a confidential situation where you will not be judged and you will be supported to understand and perhaps change some things in a way that works for you.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a way of working with children which helps them understand mixed feelings and upsetting events through play. Rather than have to explain everything children can communicate their thoughts and feelings in a safe and fun way without feeling interrogated or threatened.

Play is crucially important to every child’s development at many levels. It helps them socially, cognitively, emotionally, physically, as well as with language development. Play therapy can support children to understand more of their thoughts and feelings and can allow them to re-enact difficult life experiences in order to make sense of them and develop coping strategies. Children can also learn about relationships through play and find ways of dealing with conflict more appropriately.

As a result of play therapy children may be less anxious, have improved self-esteem, demonstrate changes in behaviour and have better relationships with others.

I use play therapy with children and young people where it is more appropriate than talking therapy based on the needs and wishes of the child.
